clear gif A Cold Winter
Brian J. Edwards
There was a young Indian who was made Chief whilst still a teenager, due to the early death of his father. Unfortunately, he had not yet been indoctrinated into all the tribal lore, so in the autumn when the tribe approached him to find out what kind of winter he expected, he had no idea.

However he gazed wisely at the birds, the vegetation and the clouds, and to be on the safe side opined that it would probably be colder than usual. So the tribe started to gather wood for the winter fires.

Being a modern Indian, next time he went to the reservation store he made a quick phone call to the Weather Bureau and asked for the long term forecast.  They said that it would probably be a hard winter.

Returning to the tribe, he again looked at the usual signs, and told the tribe it would definitely be a hard winter, so they speeded up their efforts to stockpile wood.

A week or so later, he again managed to phone the Weather Bureau, and was told it would quite definitely be a very hard winter, and as a result he told the tribe to redoubled its wood collecting efforts.

Another week or so passed and he again managed to phone the Weather Bureau and was told that it would be one of the hardest winters on record.

At this he asked ?Are you sure, and how do you know??, and received the reply ?Yes, We?re quite sure - the Indians are collecting wood like crazy?

And some one-liners

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have any film

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine

A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.

Its hard to understand how our cemetery raised its burial cost and blamed it on the cost of living.
