    Paupers Progress
    By Joe Harris

    (110pp with illustrations)

    Paupers Progress
charts the exclusion and degradation of older people over the last seven centuries and, in doing so, exposes the roots of the present paternalistic and demeaning attitudes towards older people and the inadequacies of public pensions. The case for public risk pooling for old age was made in Britain as early as the Thirteenth Century and periodically reiterated over the years. As Joe Harris shows, older people were identified as the deserving poor in the Nineteenth Century, partly due to the work of Charles Booth, and then ensured the long campaign for a decent pension. The campaign continued and, indeed, still does today.

Great book - A must read for everyone -

This is the story of Grandparents Apart Groups campaign and of the injustices suffered by families and how all of this affects children. Easy to read and understand without all the legal jargon that puts you off with references to this and that and big words like huge. (Jimmy doesn't know big words anyway). It is called 'Grandparents Speak Out For Vulnerable Children'. The price has been kept to a minimum as they are more interested in highlighting the problem than making money. ?4.00p + UK P&P ?1.00. Wheelchair Champions
The history of wheelchair sports in the U.S. is well told in Wheelchair Champions

This would be exciting and informative enough if it simply described the growth of organized sports for the handicapped or described sports careers of men and women who are paraplegics and it does. What it adds is a great deal of information about attitudes toward the handicapped and facts about their capabilities.
